Study of topographic maps

Definition
A topographic map is a detailed and accurate graphic representation of cultural and natural features on the ground. It is a two dimensional representation of three dimensional level surface.
It indicates lakes, roads, railway lines, villages, bench marks, etc.

Aim
Study of topographic map of Hyderabad, Ranga Reddy, parts of Medak, Nalgonda and Mahboobnagar

Material
Topographic map No. 56K with scale 1:2,50,000 is chosen for study of topographic features

Method
In the given map there are a few major and minor tanks such as Osman sagar, Hussain sagar, Himayat sagar that meet the drinking water requirements for the twin cities of Hyderabad and Secunderabad.
Hussain sagar is located in the center of the map. This area is very famous for tourists.
There are a few forests such as Narasapur, Ibrahimpatnam, Medipally, etc. Among them, Narasapur forest is the thickest forest that is home to a variety of flora and fauna.
The map indicates road and railway network from Hyderabad to various parts of the country.
